Mrs. Redfield's
POETRY WRITING PROJECT
for Language Arts & English 8
Due Friday December 4, 2009
Part A. Project Pverview:
In this unit, you have been exposed to several types of poetry writing as well as some of the poetic/literary devices that make this type of written expression unique. The crowning assignment is to create a Personal Poetry Webpage Portfolio. Your webpage will include:
1. Five (5), Titled Personal Examples- where you demonstrate the ability to apply the elements of literature and poetry as well as figurative language to compose five (5) different types of poetry, using your unique style! It is highly recommended that the five examples come from the ones you’ve already written in the green poetry packet.
2. Color, illustrations and clip art to complement (not overshadow) the beauty of your poetry.
Part B. Plan for Success:
1. First, select one poem from each of the following types: Acrostic, Ballad, Elegy, Free
Verse, Haiku, Limerick, and Sonnet. From this group, choose your top/favorite five poems.
2. Next, type your five (5) poems in a Microsoft Word document.
3. You may use any format you desire as long as the font is intelligible, sized between
12-16, and the layout, color, and illustrations complement your poem.
4. Revise and edit poems for spelling, literary/poetic devices, and grammar.
5. SAVE your work!
6. Follow the webpage instructions on the back. And SAVE your work!
7. Go back and view your webpage; make sure the content and appearance meets/exceeds
the expectations listed in the rubric below.
Part C. Expectations: Your finished webpage will be completed in the following manner:
__________ (100) Original Poetry- Five (5) titled poems, that you’ve created, each
represents a different type of poetry
